Cultural festivals occur in every country of the world. Attending a festival is like putting a certain culture under a microscope in an extremely unique way. At any festival one often sees the fine and intricate components of a particular culture in vivid and vibrant details. Let’s take a closer look at three different festivals in August, which will take place in various regions of Armenia.

For this trip we have chosen the most important sights in Armenia and several festivals such as, Navasard-the old Armenian New Year, the Festival of Carpets, the Honey and Berry Festival; which are brought together to give more of an opportunity to get involved in the history and culture of Armenia.

Day 5

Day 1 - August 3, 2020


Arrival to Yerevan.

Meeting at the airport. Transfer to the hotel in Yerevan.

Day 2 - August 4, 2020

Day 4We embark on a journey to the land of ancient treasures of our Christian history –the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin (UNESCO World Heritage), the “religious capital” and the seat of the Supreme Patriarch-Catholics of all Armenians. The story holds that the place where Noah made the fire after the flood is the site upon which the main Cathedral, one of the earliest Christian churches, was built. Nowadays, it is located in the lower chamber, underneath the main Altar of the Cathedral.

We continue our tour, to witness the Churches of Sts. Hripsime and Gayane (7th c.) named after the faithful virgins, these churches are dedicated to the virgins, 3rd century followers of Christ who were martyred.

Today you will enjoy a tour of one of the most enigmatic sites, visiting the remarkable Matenadaran Library and Research Institute of Armenia with close to 17,000 rare manuscripts, one of the richest depositories of manuscripts and books in the world.



Day 3 - August 5, 2020

Day 3  (1)Driving through the fertile plains of the Ararat valley, you will reach Khor Virap Monastery – the beginning of the History of Christianity in Armenia, magnificently set against the towering slopes of the Biblical Mount Ararat. You will have a quite spectacular photo opportunity before a landscape of unparalleled beauty and majesty. The monastery is the site where St. Gregory the Illuminator was incarcerated and it is a pilgrimage destination for every believer. It is especially a time for reflection upon the work of our Church’s patron saint, Gregory the Illuminator, who spread the light of Christianity in Armenia and converted King Trdat to Christianity, who later established it as a state religion in 301.  This had a determinate impact on the Armenian people and their history.

Day 3  (2)On the way to Noravank, will be a stop for tasting wine and enjoying a guided tour of the famous “Areni Winery.”  In Armenian, there is a famous saying, “Wine is bottled poetry”. Next, we will take the path through the narrow gorge, revealing Noravank Monastery, nestled inside the deep red landscape of the tuf stone mountains.

Lunch will be served near Noravank Monastery.



Day 4 - August 6, 2020

YEREVAN CITY TOUR Day 1  (6)Our journey through Armenia begins in Yerevan – the capital, one of the most ancient cities in the world – Erebouni Fortress was founded in 782 BC. Continuing our city tour, your second stop is Tsitsernakaberd memorial and museum dedicated to the 1915 Genocide. Today’s mission is to visit the exhibition, see the textual and visual documentation, including artifacts related to the first Genocide of the 20th century.  You may get a better understanding, learn and just become better informed about this tragic page of Armenia’s history, as well as World history.

Today the lunch will be provided  in special restaurant located inside the Megerian Carepet Factory where you will have the chance to taste the Armenian traditional meals with old recipes by “Araratyan Khohanots” – “Armenian Cuisine”. “MEGERIAN RUGS” Factory & Show room brings together time-honored traditions and a range of exquisite aesthetics to create objects of art for modern living and you will be acquainted with the ancient technology of Armenian carpet making.

Day 5 - August 7, 2020

Visit Aragatsotn Region – this part of Armenia, especially Mt. Aragats, has always attracted the attention of travelers, tourists and geologists due to a tremendous number of historical monuments and beautiful landscapes.

We start the day a bit differently, with one of the interesting old Armenian traditional events where you will have a chance to see Armenian Traditional FOLK, as well as actively participate in it.

Saghmosavank Monastery perch on the edge of the precipitous gorge of the Kasakh river.

Artashavan – New Complex of Armenian Letters: “It is difficult to express the deep feeling Armenians have for their language, which many regard as the lifeblood of their culture”.


Day 5 in the centerToday’s performance will represent the inimitable characteristics of NAVASARD – which is the New Year in pagan Armenia. It was celebrated on August. The feast was called Navasard. Ancient sources bear witness that Navasard – New Year was adorned with solemn and splendid festivities, which lasted several days. There were carnivals, cavalcades, various games with the participation of the king, noblemen and plain folk. Various open-air celebrations were often held at night around the fire at holy shrines. 

Many legends have been told about this most beloved feast; it is said that on this very day our forefather Hayk had a stunning victory over his enemy Bel and gave start to the history of Armenians. It was also believed that this day Noah’s Arc landed on the peak of Mount Ararat, and so the yearly celebrations of Navasard-New Year were to reconfirm the beginning of the new era of humanity.

After all this we will drive to the Lori region, passing through Vanadzor City – the historical and modern center of the province of Lori.





Day 6 - August 8, 2020

Day 6 (1)Alaverdy a town in a canyon between Yerevan and Georgia – is famous for its copper mines. We proceed to two more outstanding masterpieces of Armenian architecture Haghpat and Sanahin Monasteries (World UNESCO Heritage) in which artistic merits transcended the limits of the national culture.

Day 7 - August 9, 2020

The day will start with a visit around Dilijan: “A piece of Switzerland in Armenia” – Earth and sky, woods, fields, rivers, and mountains become excellent schoolmasters, and teach some of us more than we can ever learn in a classroom… The old approach in the new century … “Old Town Dilijan” complete with craftsmen workshops, small shops with traditional Armenian products and crafts, museum, show the typical 19th century living with all its local customs and handmade wood furnishings… Haghartsin and Goshavank MonDay 8 (1)asteries (10-13th centuries).

Then we will visit Lake Sevan – the emerald of Armenia, a beauty under the sky. Lake Sevan is considered to be one of the largest sweet water lakes in the world, situated at an altitude of 1,897 meters above sea level. The most picturesque view of Lake Sevan is seen from the peninsula, which Sevan Monastery is nicely nestled on top of, dating back to the 9th century.  




Day 8 - August 10, 2020

Day 9Historically, honey has been used by humans all over the ancient world including Armenia. As everybody knows Honey is as old as written history, dating back to 2100 B.C. In days of old and till now, honey has been used not only in food and beverages, but also for medical purposes. So now we have an opportunity to taste a variety of natural honey made in Armenia during this festival. The festival will include tasting honey and berries grown in Shamshadin, as well as tasting dishes made with these berries and honey. The festival will also include an exhibition of carpets and tapestries made by the craftsmen of the Tavush region, as well as a number of presentations of national song and dance. 


On the way to the town of Berd where the festival will take place, we’ll make a sightseeing stop: it’s Makaravank Monastery, which is a 10th to 13th century church complex in Achajur Village.  

After we will drive back to Yerevan.




Day 9 - August 11, 2020

Day 10Today is the day which we will best contrast the difference between the pre-Christianity/paganism era and the conversion of Armenia to Christianity. 

This morning you will travel to Garni, the location of the only pre-Christian pagan temple maintained in Armenia.

Later on, we will reach Geghard, a cave monastery (UNESCO), architectural complex (12-13th centuries), carved out of one monolithic rock. Due to the extraordinary acoustics, when the individual begins to sing in this chamber it is hard to believe a large choir isn’t singing… be aware it is only one person… A visit to Geghard is truly a spiritual experience.

Day 10-11EVENING: FAREWELL DINNER in a typical Armenian Restaurant with live Armenian music completing your journey with unforgettable memories.
