In 2016, we organize a hiking tour to the Biblical Mount of Ararat.
The duration of the trip is 6 days and 5 nights
The number of participants: 10-15 people
The group will depart from Yerevan for the Armenian-Georgian boarder (Bavra), then via Akhaltskha city will reach the Georgian-Turkish border, after passing through Ardahan region, we will leave for Bayazet traveling through Igdir. The group will spend a night in Bayazet.
Climb Mt. Ararat
The group will reach an altitude of up to 2200 meters on Mt. Ararat by vehicle, from where we will start the walking path. After 4-5 hours of walking, the group will reach an altitude of up to 3300 m, where participants will spend a night in the first camp, located there.

After breakfast, the group will continue walking up to an altitude of 4100 m, where the second camp is located. Participants will take a rest and get prepared for the next days climb. Overnight stay will be in the camp located at an altitude of 4100 m.
Climb the top of Mt. Ararat
At night, around 1:00 – 2:00am the group will continue its mission to the top of Mt. Ararat. Depending on weather conditions, in this segment of the climb, the temperature may vary from 0 C to -15 C. In case of favorable weather, participants will have a chance to see territories of Armenia, Persia, Nakhichevan, Turkey, as well as admire the scenes of Aragats Mount, Geghama mountain ranges, etc. After taking photos and celebrating a successful climb, participants will begin their way down to the camp located at an altitude of up to 4100m. After lunch and a short rest, the group will continue to move down to the foot of Mt. Ararat and be transported to Bayazet.
Overnight in Bayazet
The group will depart from Bayazet for Van with a visit to the wonderful waterfalls of Berkri on the way. The first place to visit in Van city will be the Castle of Tushpa (Van Fortress, 9th century BC), where cuneiform inscriptions and mausoleum of kings of Sardar and Argishti are maintained. Afterwards, participants will see the Door of Mher, visit the Island of Akhtamar and Holy Cross Church, which is considered as the first of the seven churches of Armenian architecture by its unique architectural solutions, ornaments and sculptures. After tasting tarekh, a fish type specific to lake Van and taking a rest on the beach, the group will depart from Van in the southeast direction, for the monastery of Varaga located on the western slope of the Varaga Mountain (religious and cultural famous center of medieval Armenia). From Varaga Monastery, the group will continue its route to Bayazet to spend the night.
Tour to Kars – Ani
In the morning, the group will depart from Bayazet to Kars and have a chance to look at ruins of the childhood home of Armenian famous poet Yeghishe Charents, as well as many buildings of Armenian architecture from the period of 19-20 century. After a visit to the Kars Fortress, Bridge of Vardan and St. Arakelots church, participants will leave for Ani; the city of a thousand and one churches. Having a delightful tour throughout Ani, the group will depart for Yerevan.
Important Notes During the climb to Mount Ararat, all the items of participants will be transported by horses. Depending on weather conditions, additional one-day overnight may be required, for which extra expenditures won’t be required from participants. To help with physical preparedness of participants, before the start of the main tour program, a few preparatory multi-climbing tours will be held to the Mounts of Ara, Hatis and Aragats. The Tour Program doesn’t encompass costs of these multi-programs.
