Arrival to Yerevan. Meeting at the airport. Transfer to the hotel in Yerevan. Check in hotel in Yerevan. Time for resting.

Republic Square, Yerevan, the rose-colored capital, so called because most buildings use a pink shade of “tuf” stone, quarried in Armenia.

Let’s start our acquaintance with the city of Yerevan by stepping through its ancient history at the Erebouni museum and Fortress, which was founded in 782 B.C.,

Republic Square, Sports and Concert Complex, Kievian Bridge, Bagramyan Avenue, Presidential Palace, Academy of Sciences, National Parliament, Opera Theater;

Next sto16830289_10212188822573220_933606364_np is Cascade, which is a huge white staircase built on the Yerevan hillside in the 1970s, with water fountains running down the sides, all reminiscent of a natural river or stream cascading. It connects the central district to Haghtanak Park –“Victory” Park to the center of the city. The structure has escalators so that it is unnecessary to manually ascend the stairs all the way to the top.

Tsitsernakaberd memorial and museum to the 1915 Genocide, which is one of the most impressive monuments in Yerevan.

Visit to “MEGERIAN RUGS” Factory & Show room: Which brings together time-honored traditions and a range16809553_10212188822613221_1854737849_n of exquisite aesthetics to create objects of art for modern living and you will become acquainted with the ancient technology of Armenian carpet making.

Today the lunch will provide  in special restaurant part of Megerian Carpet Factory which is one of the opportunity to taste of Armenian traditional meals with old recipes by “Araratyan Khohanots” – “Armenian Cuisine”.

MASTER  CLASS: traditional Armenian meal – Ghapama, with Sedrak Mamulyan, a well-known chef, leader of Armenian Cuisine Revival Association. Time to start!

Preparing ghapama is a special ceremony. First we put rice in water in a separate pan, and put it on a slow fire. After we cut round the upper part of the pumpkin and put it aside, and then start the main part of the work.

It is necessary to remove all the entrails and then washes the pumpkin.

Step one after  we spread melted honey on the inner walls of the pumpkin.

After we put a piece of butter on the bottom, then we add a spoon of honey, then fill in some part of the rice, cooked beforehand and mixed with raisin, then we add the dried plums and apricot to the rest of the rice. At the end, of course we’ll not forget to  put the ‘hat’ on the pumpkin.”

And then the stuffed pumpkin with rice and dried fruit is cooked for about 30 minutes.

Day 3

16809262_10212188828893378_2069182591_nToday is the day which we will be best contrast the difference between the pre-Christianity /paganism era and the conversion of Armenia to Christianity. 

This morning you will travel to Garni, the location of the only pre-Christian pagan temple maintained in Armenia.

Then you will reach Geghard (Cave monastery) (UNESCO) architectural complex (12-13th centuries), carved out of one monolithic rock. Due to the extraordinary acoustics, when the local singer begins to sing in this chamber it is hard to believe a large choir isn’t singing… be aware it is only one man…

A visit to Geghard is truly a spiritual experience.

Today you will participate for traditional table/lavash (Armenian bread) and GATA making: “Eat thy bread with joy” in Geghard

Lake Sevan is considered  to be one of the largest sweet water lakes in the world, situated at an altitide of 1,897 meters above sea level. The most picturesque view of Lake Sevan is seen from the peninsula atop which Sevan Monastery is nicely nestled dating to the 9th century;

Dilijan: “A piece of Switzerland in Armenia – Earth and sky, woods and fields, rivers, the mountains become excellent schoolmasters, and teach some of us more than we can ever learn otherwise… The old approach in the new century … “Old Town Dilijan” complete with craftsmen workshops, small shops with traditional Armenian products and crafts, museum, showing typical 19th century living with all its local customs and handmade wood furnishings….. 10-13th centuries

Day 4

16809590_10212188878734624_1009233847_nYou will enjoy a tour of the most enigmatic of cities, visiting the remarkable Matenadaran Library and Research Institute of Armenia which houses about 17000 rare manuscripts. This is one of the richest depositories of manuscripts and books in the world. The history of the Matenadaran dates back to the creation of the Armenian alphabet in 405.

Visit Aragatsotn Region – this part of Armenia, especially Mt. Aragats, has always attracted the attention of travelers, tourists and geologists due to a tremendous number of historical monuments and beautiful landscapes.

Artashavan – New Complex of Armenian Letters: “It is difficult to express the deep feeling Armenians have for their language, which many regard as the lifeblood of their culture”.  Saghmosavank Monastery perch on the edge of the precipitous gorge of the Kasakh River. Visiting the village of Oshakan, you will see the church which is built over the grave of Mesrop Mashtots, who is the founder of the Armenian alphabet, and one of Armenia’s greatest benefactors.

16804717_10212188887214836_189430903_o (1)Today we embark on our Journey to the lands of ancient treasures of Christian history…the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, you will also participate in DIVINE LITURGY (on Sundays) It’s the “religious capital” of the Armenian Church and the seat of the Supreme Patriarch-Catholics of all Armenians. It has 4 main churches, including the Cathedral. Built in 303 AD, the cathedral is a masterpiece of the Armenian classical architecture and considered to be one of the world’s earliest Christian churches. Admire Hripsime and Gayane Churches(7th c) named after faithful virgins.
