Mount Aragats Hiking

Picture3Mount Aragats is an isolated four-peaked volcano massif in Armenia. Its northern summit, at 4,090 m (13,420 ft) above sea level, is the highest point of the Lesser Caucasus  and Armenia. It is also one of the highest points in the Armenian Highlands.

The Aragats massif is surrounded by Kasagh River on the east, Akhurian River on the west, Ararat plain on the south and Shirak plain on the north.

The Best Time to Visit: July – September

Early in the morning (6.30 am) the group will be transferred from Yerevan to Lake Kari (3207 m), where they will start hiking to the Northern Summit of the Mount. Group participants will move to the South-Western saddle of Aragats, then bypass the crater and climb the Northern Summit of the Mount (4090 m). The path from the Northern Summit will lead to the crater and participants will reach Lake Kari through the Eastern side of the Southern Summit and will be transported back to Yerevan.

The route is suitable for groups, however hikers need to go through acclimatization. The climb to Northern Summit of Aragats requires the hikers to be physically prepared, as it is quite long and takes about 10-12 hours.
